This website is free for all to use. It is my contribution to our community and nature where we live. With just a little funding I can afford to offer more competitions and prizes and do more things on the website.

Congratulations and thank you to everybody who took part in our competition!

During a fabulous fungus season, the entries came in thick and fast! Judging was really challenging. The pictures were impactful, beautifully and thoughtfully composed and very creative. It was hard to stop being mesmerised by the beautiful Fly Agarics and Amethyst Deceivers that came so close to winning. On another day, the winners could easily have been different!

What was apparent was the colour and variety of fungi found in the Valley captured by so many excellent photographers. We also heard how much fun was had by families going out, spotting them and taking the photos!

After much consideration, the chosen winner of the Under 16’s section was Orla Danaher, age 10, for her image of Stinking Dapperlings, shown on this page. (We’re unsure about this identification so, as always, do not eat mushrooms without expert guidance). This image has an instant appeal, taken at a great angle.

The Over 16s category had a much bigger selection to choose from. Painful as it was to have to make a choice from so many great pictures, we finally settled on Dave Faulkner’s Porcelain fungus, a beautiful composition that caught the light and location beautifully.

On the next page are the final top selections, chosen by both judges, from which the winners were eventually chosen. If your entry is not shown, do not despair, there were so many good ones that could win another competition on another day. Enjoy continuing to get out in the Valley, honing your creative skills. There is so much to photograph there!
