This summer's challenge - The Tamara Coast to Coast

Published on 20 January 2024 at 08:14

Already planning trips in the New Year, this summer I'll be walking the Tamara Coast to Coast way on the borders of Devon and Cornwall with a friend. We'll be walking from Morwenstow on the north Devon coast to the Tamar Bridge on the outskirts of Plymouth. It should average out at about a nice, relaxed 11 miles a day. The walk was recently publicised on Countryfile and there's a website with more information. See Unfortunately, the book of the Trail is already sold out but there's an OS map and a link to the OSMaps website which is all we will need, plus a bit of internet exploration!

Due to the likely popularity of the trail this year we've already booked our accommodation, a mix of self-catering and B&B places. In time we expect some 'bag carrier' enterprises to be available, so car travel daily could be avoided.  For now, we will manage with a car 'leapfrogging' system similar to one I used with groups of friends on many walks including the Camino de Santiago.

While it's some months ahead now, when the time comes, I'll be posting our progress on this blog with many trail photos!

Meanwhile, it's back to the great paths in our own area where there are plenty of nice routes to find!

Happy walking all!
